Just hearing the word cancer can instil fear and cause devastation for individuals, their family and friends.
Whilst cancer treatments and outcomes have greatly improved in recent years, it’s natural to worry about the treatment, side effects, test results and the long-term outcome.
The cancer journey has often been compared to being on a rollercoaster with lots of ups and downs, along with unpredictable twists and turns. For many it’s not seen as a sprint but a marathon!
Whilst everyone is an individual and will therefore cope with the cancer diagnosis and treatment in their own way, there are some common issues. Some people may experience anticipatory nausea and vomiting from chemotherapy; have a needle or mask phobia; fear of enclosed spaces when having MRI /CT scans; along with emotions such as fear, stress, anxiety, anger and sadness. Poor sleep is another common and unwanted consequence of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
Often support to deal with or overcome some of these issues is sought from family, friends and love ones. However, the reality is those same people may also be struggling to deal with recent events, as well as being unsure of how and when it’s appropriate to help.
Who am I?
My name is Wendy Chorley and I have a wealth of knowledge and experience as a Registered Nurse in the NHS of nearly forty years. More than twenty of those years have been within the cancer directorate. I know how important it is to manage the adverse effects of or fears about cancer and its treatment.
I would like to help you on this often difficult and lonely cancer journey. There are few interventions as personalised, nor with such a wide therapeutic potential to manage your symptoms or exacerbations of symptoms than HYPNOTHERAPY. As a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, I believe I can make a real difference by supporting and empowering you to take back some control, physically and emotionally. Just a few sessions of hypnotherapy could make a real difference!
Cancer Research UK recommends Hypnotherapy to cancer patients as a supportive treatment alongside medical intervention. Macmillan Cancer Support states that mind-body therapies such as Hypnotherapy may help you feel less anxious, improve your mood and help you sleep. They can also be used to help with symptoms such as pain, or to reduce side effects caused by cancer treatment.
